Bartholomeus Klip
Hotel Accomodation Cape Town, South Africa
Bartholomeus Klip is a guest house, hotel, game park, nature reserve and a wildlife preserve. Bartholomeus Klip offers luxury accommodation near to Cape Town, South Africa, and the winelands of the Western Cape, in a Victorian homestead beautifully restored to the very highest standards. A maximum of 10 guests at Bartholomeus Klip means that the atmosphere is intimate and personal, and the thoughtful service, attention to detail and gourmet cooking means that Bartholomeus Klip is a guest house with a difference.
Wildlife and conservation
Bartholomeus Klip is also Cape Town's nearest eco-tourism destination, with herds of wild game in a fynbos nature reserve which guests visit twice daily on game drives, with sundowners served under an African sky yet within sight of Table Mountain. Guests can see eland, gemsbok, wildebeest, zebra, ostrich, bontebok, buffalo, quagga, springbuck, leopard, blue crane and the African fish eagle.
Also at Bartholomeus Klip, guests can inspect the daily operations of a large working farm, with 4000 sheep and 6000 acres of crops such as wheat, oats and canola. Two very interesting eco-projects can be visited at Bartholomeus Klip: the quagga project, an attempt by the South African Museum to re-breed the extinct quagga, and a herd of disease-free buffalo. Bartholomeus Klip is the last remaining viable habitat of the geometric tortoise, which lives happily in the fynbos of this unique reserve, part of the Cape floral kingdom which is the world's smallest but also its richest.
Cape Town and the winelands
There is plenty to do at Bartholomeus Klip: mountain biking, windsurfing, walking, hiking and birdwatching, as well as touring the neighbouring winelands in the districts of Tulbagh, Riebeek Kasteel, Wellington, Paarl, Franschhoek and Stellenbosch. Perhaps the major attribute of Bartholomeus Klip, though, is the peace and tranquility of this very special guesthouse. Bartholomeus Klip has been incorrectly spelt as Bartholomews Clip, Bartholomew's Clip, Bartholomews Klip and Bartholomew's Klip.
